Statue Fang

Very beautiful and rare Fang sculpture from Gabon in carved and patinated wood height 25cm beard and forehead studded both hands hold a cup In Fang society, the authority was in the hands of the eldest. Each head of the family kept the bones of the deceased all in a box made of bark. Heads or statuettes were carved at the bottom to overcome these boxes to represent the soul of the deceased. they were kept in a hut built away from the houses. Strange and fascinating statuette forming a synthesis of aspects of the human body.
